This is one of the most important aspects of rescue in Antigua - getting the pup to an adopter in the USA or Canada!
If you are visiting Antigua, please consider traveling home with one of our rescue pups in cabin or in cargo. A rescue parter will meet you at the airport to transport the puppy to their adopter. It is no cost to you and saves a life.

We also are very grateful for any donations: leashes, bowls, flea and tick treatment, heart worm prevention, dog kennels, and so much more.
Athena was rescued after being attacked by a man with a machete. She was very timid when she appeared weak and ill. It took a few weeks for her to gain MacKenzie's trust, but when she did the bond was inseparable. She lives in Antigua with her rescue siblings, Vinny, Missy, Tiny and Brian.
Steppy lived in a coal pit on the side of the road in Antigua. She was treated very poorly by the men in the area and was afraid of everyone. She didn't come out to meet MacKenzie until her sister, Cinders started begging for food for the both of them. Quarantine made it difficult to rescue her, but eventually she made her way all the way to Baltimore, MD where she lives with
her human parents, Renée and Ben, the 6 cats and her dog brother, Sulley.
Sulley was roaming the streets with his brother Rocco when they were just tiny babies. Luckily, they found us and made their way to American to live happily ever after.
Sulley's brother, Rocco is a sweet Antiguan rescue who was found roaming the streets as a young puppy. He is still best friends with his brother and was adopted by Sulley's mama's best friend! Summers are full of fun with these two!
Gus is another Antiguan rescue puppy. He made his way to the big Apple where he was fostered until he could be adopted in Baltimore, MD. Gus gets to play with Rocco often and has his own adopted brother, Loki.
Cindy Lu, previously called Cinders (short for Cinderella) was found sitting on the side of the road just waiting for someone to come love her. When we posted her photo, her adopters couldn't resist. Cindy Lu now lives in New York with her dream family, where she is treated like the Queen.
Winnie was found nearly dead on the side of the road. After a week of feeding her she was lively and ready to start medical treatments. We recently celebrated Winnie's negative heart worm test result! She went through a lot, but you'd never know with her grateful, loving personality. Winnie live in Maryland with the family she has always deserved.
Vinny, short for Vincent vanGogh is a very prestigious street dog. MacKenzie took him off the streets in January 2021 because a man told her he was going to kill him that night. When asked what he was doing wrong the man told her "he's following me around." Now, Vinny follows his loving human companion around everyday without worry. Vinny lives in Antigua with his humans and his pack: Athena, Brian and Missy.
Founder, MacKenzie Hodge feeds and cares for Antigua's stray dogs every day, while also rescuing and re-homing as many dogs as she can. This was the initial purpose of Pawse Active.
Leo was born as a street dog in the Galapagos Islands in 2012. Founders, MacKenzie and Renee Hodge adopted him after he was rescued by Darwin Animal Doctors. Leo's life was shorter than most dogs, and he is missed every day. His kindness and unconditional love are the inspiration behind PAWSE's mission.
+ Foster animals. Fostering saves lives. You won't only save the life of the dog your fostering, but the next one who is able to go into his space at the shelter. Rescues and shelters always need more fosters.
+ Spay and neuter your animals. Dog and cat overpopulation increases euthanasia rates. An accidental litter kills the chances of animals already looking for their forever homes.
+ Volunteer at you local animal shelter. Dogs need to be walked, and cats need to be socialized.
+ Adopt a cat or dog only when you are ready. Adoption is a life long commitment. Did you know there are rescues dedicated to breed specific rescue dogs? You can always find the dog you're looking for through adoption.
+ Donate resources to rescues and shelters. Old towels, sheets, cardboard boxes, baby wipes and so much more can be donated. Look up your shelters wish list to learn more.
+ Transport a pup. Did you know that there are rescue communities all over the world dedicated to re-homing dogs? Sometimes a rescue in Boston can take a dog from a kill shelter in Texas, or transport may be as simple as a 30 minute drive. Ask your rescue or shelter how to get involved!
+ Be a Travel Buddy! Are you traveling to the Caribbean or another beautiful destination? Search the rescues near by to where you're staying and fly home with a puppy. A rescue partner will be a the airport waiting for your pup. There are no costs involved, you get to travel with a cute puppy and you're saving a life! + Teach your children to care for animals. Teach them how to feed them, bathe them and the importance of veterinary care. Having pets is a very rewarding responsibility.
+ Always microchip your dog or cat. If your dog is lost, a microchip with your information connected to it will show that your dog is yours. Keep your information up to date.
+ BE KIND. As much as this should “go without saying,” be kind to everyone you meet. Be kind to shelter volunteers, the adoption agencies and the foster parents. Be kind to everyone. Someone may have just had to put down their foster dog or missed a family event to save an animal. Everyone puts their love and energy into saving lives. It truly takes a village. Support them with your kindness.
